Previously, we already told you about what panic attacks are. Many people try to use alcohol to deal with this unpleasant condition - after all, everyone knows the expression "drink for courage". At first it does become easier to cope with panic attacks, but not for long. Gradually the sedative effect weakens, and the subsequent intake of alcohol the expected relief no longer comes, but the frequency and intensity of attacks increase, so that more and more alcohol is required - a vicious circle occurs, as in the case of the development of attacks, when fear of what is happening only increases the general feeling of panic. An attack occurring at the peak of the withdrawal syndrome is an ordeal, both for the person and for those close to them at that moment. In addition, addiction occurs, and then the attack is provoked by the absence of alcohol. As a result the boundary between panic attack and vegetative variant of a hangover syndrome is lost, alcohol addiction is formed.

Risk group

Alcohol is considered to provoke panic attacks in people whose work is associated with constant stress. As a rule, these are employees in positions of responsibility: managers, bank employees, accountants. The so-called "manager's syndrome" is nothing other than living under constant stress. Irregular working hours, lack of sleep, lots of coffee and cigarettes, regular consumption of alcohol "to relax" - all this leads to the fact that many hard working people in middle age begin to have panic attacks. Many of them recall that the first time they had an attack was when they were intoxicated. Thus, there is absolutely no justification for the use of alcohol in patients suffering from panic attacks. Alcohol can only aggravate the symptoms, and over time can provoke the development of alcoholism.

Treatment

If panic attacks occur against the background of alcohol addiction, it makes the situation much worse and complicates treatment. To stop the attacks, the doctor may prescribe tranquilizers or other drugs, further treatment is carried out in a complex, it depends on the characteristics of the course of the disease. Panic disorder may be temporary, and can take a chronic form - in each case, therapy is necessary
