Federal funding to improve mental health services in mid-Michigan

Federal funding was awarded to a Genesee County organization to improve mental health services.

The Greater Flint Health Coalition received $750,000 to expand its Genesee County Health Access Program to improve the prevention and treatment of mental health crises for mid-Michigan residents.

This funding is part of nine public project funding requests that Congressman Dan Kildee secured as part of the FY 2022 appropriations bills.

"No Michigan resident should have a hard time getting the mental health care they need. I am proud to have secured funding to support the work of the Greater Flint Health Coalition to improve the prevention and treatment of mental health crises for mid-Michigan residents," Kildee said. "I will continue to work in Congress to expand access to affordable health care."

The Greater Flint Health Coalition expressed its gratitude for the funding provided.

"Expanding local capacity to improve access to care and navigating community health resources is an important step to ensure opportunities to improve health outcomes and address the mental health needs of our residents," said Dr. Lawrence Reynolds, interim president and CEO of the Greater Flint Health Coalition.

New and expanded mental health programs will improve communication between social services and health care organizations, including doctors, hospitals, mental health clinics and health insurance companies, Kildee's office said.
